GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES

Zanzibar is located in the Indian Ocean and, together with the northern island of Pemba, forms a semi-autonomous sub-state, which is part of the unified state of Tanzania. The Zanzibar Archipelago consists of the two main islands, Zanzibar (form Unguja) and Pemba, which is located north-north-east of the island of Zanzibar. Zanzibar is 25 to 50 kilometers off the coast of Tanzania and is surrounded by coral reefs and sea grass meadows. About 1,150,000 inhabitants live on the two main islands. The airport in Zanzibar is located on the main island of Unguja near the capital, Stone Town. The official language is Kisuaheli. Zanzibar is during the time zone UTC +3 hours.

DIVING AT DESTINATION

DIVING QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Zanzibar offers a beautiful and varied underwater world with more than 2,000 species of fish (eg ghost morays, firefighters, Chevron and Dark Barracuda, Yellowfin tuna and giant reef sharks), which divers can explore all year round regardless of the experience. On the southeast coast of the island, beginners can dive into shallow waters. For advanced riders it is worth diving at the edge of the reef. The best diving conditions are in the months September to March.
