Mallorca
GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES
Mallorca is one of the largest Mediterranean island and belongs to the island group Balearic Islands. Mallorca is located in the western Mediterranean and is about 170 km from the Spanish mainland. With about 870,000 inhabitants and a total area of about 3.603 km2 it is the largest island of the Balearic Islands.
The capital is Palma del Mallorca and is also the starting point for all travelers arriving by plane. On the island are Castilian and Catalan the official language. Mallorca is located in the summer time in the CEST and in the other times in the CET.
Territories Mallorca can be divided into different regions. For divers, the south-east and west coast sections of the Balearic Islands are particularly interesting.
DIVING AT DESTINATION
DIVING QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
For beginners and advanced, Mallorca offers impressive dives in clear waters with excellent visibility. The region around Cala Rajada and Cala d’Or in the east of the island is particularly suitable for the first attempts at diving. On the other hand, the south-western coastal region offers an impressive underwater world for experienced divers. Special dive sites beside the many caves offer the great nature reserves around the offshore islands Sa Dragonera in the west and Cabrera in the east of the island. The nature reserves offer an original habitat for flora and fauna. Here, large swarms of barracudas and especially large groupers are not uncommon.
Whether first attempts at diving, diving beginners or advanced, Mallorca offers something for everyone.
POPULAR DIVE REGIONS
MARSA ALAM
SA DRAGONERA
Southwest of Mallorca is Sa Dragonera, a rocky island, which is protected by nature. In this area there are a lot of diving spots, whose underwater world, besides wrecks and caves, is also characterized by swarms of barracudas, eagle rufflers, moray eels, octopus, dolphins and moonfish.

CABRERA
To the south-east is the offshore island of Cabrera as part of the National Park Archipiélago. It is located about 17 km south coast of Mallorca. The Cabrera archipelago consists of 18 islands with a total area of 18 km² and a coast line of 54 km. The heavily karstic islands consist of 3 main islands and some smaller rock islands. The water is crystal clear and offers amazing visibility while diving as well as snorkeling in a species-rich underwater environment. An excursion to this island is particularly recommendable. However, in advance it should be noted that entry and beta testing is currently only possible with a special permit at 6 dive sites due to strict requirements in the nature conservation area. At present, more of the up to 48 dive sites for sports divers are being considered. The dive sites require a copy of your passport, diving license, a medical dive test and details of your dive insurance for the dives.
CLIMATE
Mallorca has about 300 sunny days and is characterized by a moderate subtropical climate. Majorca is characterized by cool and moist autumn / winter months and hot and dry summer months. As a rule, an average of 15 degrees celsius is measured during the winter months, during the summer months the thermometer usually rises above 30 degrees celsius.
BEST TRAVEL TIME
Mallorca can be visited at any time of the year and depends on the interests of the travelers. Already in January, almond trees begin to bloom and make Mallorca flourish.
The months March to October are ideal for divers because of the good diving conditions.
